Prerequisites

Applicants must meet both the California State University, Fullerton and Department of Nursing requirements for admission to the Master of Science in Nursing Program.

Requirements for Admission to the University:

A Baccalaureate or Masters degree in Nursing (BSN or MSN) from a professionally accredited institution of higher learning. In California, the school must be WASC accredited; outside of California the other approved accrediting bodies are MSACS, NEASC, NCACS, NASC, SACS, and NWCCU. Please check with your school regarding whether they fit these requirements. Accreditation with Accreditation Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) will NOT be accepted.

TOEFL requirement: All applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English, must demonstrate competence in English by taking the TOEFL test. A minimum score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) on the TOEFL test is required.

Requirements for Admission to the Department of Nursing (MSN - Nurse Anesthesia concentration):

A Baccalaureate or Masters degree in Nursing (BSN or MSN) from a professionally accredited institution of higher learning. Foreign Transcripts: If you completed your degree in a university outside of the United States, you must have it evaluated by an outside agency for US equivalency and conversion of your GPA to a 4.0 scale.

A minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale in the BSN or MSN.

Baccalaureate upper-division (junior/senior level) statistics course with a grade of "C" or better **

Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, Current PPD or chest x-ray (within past year), TITERS showing immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella,
Hepatitis B, Varicella, Current California RN license, California drivers license, and California automobile insurance (ONLY IF ACCEPTED).

Completion of an interview as required.

Minimum of 1 year of current full time nursing experience in adult critical care ICU (Emergency Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Step Down Unit, Cath Lab are not considered adult critical care).

** Statistics Upper-division (junior/senior University level) statistics courses completed within the United States are automatically accepted to meet our pre-requisite requirements. Classes taken at a lower division level or outside the United States may be considered upon evaluation by CSUF.

NOTE: The GRE is not required

Accreditation

The Kaiser Permanente Nurse Anesthesia Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), 222 S Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, IL 60068, (847) 655-1160. The program was last reviewed by the COA in May 2007. This program's next review by the COA is scheduled for May 2017.
